Jauna Murmu Adivasi Sprinter from Odisha bagged Two Gold Medal in 12th South Asian Games-2016

Among the many one Adivasi sprinter Jauna Murmu from Mayurbhanj district of Odisha leading the Adivasi in athletic. Jauna Murmu bagged gold medal in women’s 400m hurdles at the ongoing 12th South Asian Games-2016, in Guwahati on February 11, 2016. Later, on the same day Jauna along with Ashwani Akunj, Sini Jose and Poovamma won Gold Medal in 1600m relay in athletics.

In women's 400m hurdles Jauna Murmu finished ahead of former Asian champion Ashwini Akkunji for the gold medal. Jauna delivered her best timing after 2010 as she clocked 57.69 secs for the gold, while Ashwini clocked 58.92 for the silver ahead of Sri Lankan Kawshalya (59.87s).

Jauna has multiple International and national achievements:
International
  • Finished 4th in 400m hurdles in 2010 Asian Games held in Guangzhou, China.
  • Won one gold medal in women’s 400 metre hurdles event, clocking 57.39 seconds and claimed one bronze in 400 metres sprint with a timing of 53.17 seconds in the 3rd Asian All Star Athletics Meet, which concluded at New Delhi on July 30, 2010.
National

Won the silver medal in women's 400m event of the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championship, clocking 52.78 seconds at Patiala, Punjab on August 6, 2010.
